Rat Prevention And How We Can Help With It

July 15, 2016

People often claim we’re never more than six feet from a rat, but recent studies prove otherwise.
In reality, humans outnumber rats six to one. Given Britain’s size, rats are likely about 164 feet away—not six. Still, we must stay alert. Rats adapt quickly and move into areas where they find food or shelter.
That’s why you must take proactive steps to prevent infestations. Secure your bins, remove rubbish promptly, and seal entry points around your property. These simple actions reduce the chances of attracting rodents. By staying vigilant and maintaining clean surroundings, you actively keep rats away.
Preventing a problem always costs less than solving one—especially when pests are involved.

Did you know? The perfect place for rats to live is;

  • Where there is warmth.
  • Good Shelter.
  • Plenty of food and water.

Just like us really, only not as fussy on the surroundings!

Are you reading this and wondering ‘how does this affect me?’ Well, let us tell you…

Councils have replaced weekly bin collections with fortnightly ones and reduced the size of general waste bins. Now, the average household ends up with two to three extra bin bags each week. Larger households may produce even more waste. You might think, “A few extra bags aren’t a big deal—I’ll wait and do one trip to the tip.” However, leaving rubbish outside encourages pests and creates serious health risks. Rats are quick to take advantage of easily accessible food and shelter. Delaying disposal makes rat prevention much harder. Instead, manage waste properly to keep your home and surroundings safe.
Use local waste sites or contact a professional rubbish removal service. Consistent waste control is one of the most effective steps in rat prevention. Don’t let a small pile of rubbish turn into a larger problem—act early and stay protected.

These are true facts:

The National Pest Technicians Association gathered data from over 400 councils across the UK.
Its members handled more than half a million vermin issues last year. According to the report, this was by far the highest number recorded in nine years of surveying. Specifically, there were 378,000 reported rat infestations—an increase of 15 percent. The association identified several contributing factors behind the rise in rat problems. Firstly, many councils have replaced weekly bin collections with fortnightly rounds.
As a result, waste sits longer, creating ideal conditions for vermin. Additionally, poorly secured household rubbish adds to the issue. The report noted that this becomes worse when alternate weekly collections are not well managed or fully accepted. Therefore, the association urges both councils and residents to improve waste handling and collection practices. Effective rubbish removal and proper bin management remain key to reducing rat infestations.

What can be done to help Rat Prevention?

Don’t let rubbish attract pests—remove it as soon as possible. If you can’t handle it yourself, give us a call. We handle rubbish removal for both domestic and commercial properties quickly and efficiently.
You might be thinking, “But won’t this cost me?” Yes, it will—but far less than the cost of pest control after an infestation. Taking action now saves you time, stress, and money later.

Act now, don’t let this…

Taxes, Taxes and more Taxes

April 1, 2016

The government introduced the landfill tax on October 1, 1996, to support environmental protection.
Landfill operators collect and pay this tax for every tonne of waste they send to landfill. They pay a higher rate for active waste, like plastic packaging. They pay a lower rate for inactive waste, such as builder’s rubble. At launch, the standard rate was £7 per tonne. The lower rate started at just £2 per tonne.
Since 1999, the government has steadily increased the standard rate. It now stands at £82.50 per tonne.
The lower rate also increased slightly and currently sits at £2.60 per tonne. On April 1, 2016, the standard rate will rise to £84.40 per tonne. The lower rate will remain at £2.60 per tonne.

Where Do Your Taxes Go? A Closer Look at Landfill Charges and What They Really Fund

Every waste disposal operator pays this fee to the government before earning any profit.
We make this payment before covering wages, fuel, maintenance, or other running costs.
In 2015–16 alone, the Landfill Community Fund received £59.4 million from this tax. Yes, that’s £59.4 million in just one year! Imagine how much the government has collected since the tax began in 1996.
The real question is: where does all that money go? Is it truly improving the country as intended?
That’s a debate worth having—and it could go on for quite a while!

Waste Disposal Truck and How It’s Eco Friendly

November 19, 2015

Here at The Rubbish Removers we have a strong ethos to do as much as possible to conserve the environment. In the past, this has involved a zero-tolerance policy. Recycling everything possible from the waste removed which in addition has seen us clearing many local shared land and alleyways of fly tipped waste.

Where Do We Cover

We cover areas within a 45 mile radius of Manchester.  We spend a lot of time on the road and therefore feel it is now time to carry this ethos onto our fleet of vehicles.

How Have We Done This With The New Waste Disposal Truck

We invested in a new hybrid truck that produces 16% fewer emissions and uses 25% less fuel. The truck has an electric motor that assists the diesel engine and recharges when slowing down.
This makes the vehicle more eco-friendly without losing power or performance. It also has a much larger payload than our previous trucks. We can carry more waste per trip, reducing journeys to the tip. This helps us finish full house clearances and big commercial jobs faster. The truck includes a modern tail lift that lifts up to one tonne. It makes removing heavy items like pianos, sofas, and furniture safer and easier. We’re proud to improve our service and reduce our environmental impact with this upgrade.

We are so happy with our new waste disposal truck and we are in the process of ordering a second, and hope to have this in the coming months.

We have been working on our public image for the last 15+ years and it is important to us that we maintain this.

Unfortunately our industry gets negative press due to the unregistered opportunist man with a van, however we feel our new vehicles will give confidence to the customer, not only that we are a professional business who will deal with your waste disposal correctly, but also that we have strong values to reduce our carbon footprint which we share with the wider society.

Let us know what you think of our new vehicle on our Facebook page!

Boss marries his secretary!

September 10, 2015

Now I have your attention and before the gossip mongers start and tongues get wagging, here is our story of how the boss marries his secretary….

We met 25 years ago, 10 years prior to the Rubbish Removers being founded, got engaged, bought a house and had 2 wonderful children.

Then why has it taken so long? I hear you ask, to be honest I cannot really answer that question. Maybe as everyone knows sometimes life just seems to get busier and busier.  We all do it by saying  we will definitely do it next year’. Then before you know it, 25 years have passed just like that.

What we both agreed on was that we did not want the typical wedding in England. Which growing up was always you have it in a church and then the reception afterwards, followed with a honeymoon somewhere. Ultimately we wanted to do something where  everyone who came would be involved and also remember the day like no other.

So what did we do.

We decided to go to Lindos in Rhodes, Greece. There were 30 friends and family who joined us for the whole week and as the saying goes it was the ‘best day of our lives’.

Our daughter did my hair and our son gave me away (A real family affair).

Wedding
The Rubbish Removers family

I started my own career before I became his secretary just five months ago. He moved quickly!
Since then, we’ve built a true family-run business. Our son joined the team and brings fresh ideas every day. Our nephew stepped in as our manager and keeps everything running smoothly. We focus on treating our customers with genuine care and attention. We work hard to put people first in everything we do. And that’s how the boss married his secretary!
We’d love to hear from you—follow us and share your thoughts on either twitter/facebook.
