Fly Tipping the scourge of our society

Fly Tipping Sofa

Did you know? Everyone who handles waste, including householders has a ‘duty of care’ to dispose of their waste responsibly.

Recently, there has been a lot of bad publicity about white van man fly tipping. Unscrupulous people advertise to clear your waste and then, instead of disposing of it at a licensed waste transfer station, fly tipping to avoid the waste transfer costs. Unfortunately, this kind of bad behaviour is on the increase and the producer of the waste will be liable and face prosecution. If you fail to take reasonable measures to ensure your waste is handled by an authorised waste carrier  the authorities can prove that the fly tipped waste originated from you.

How To Stop Your Waste Being Fly Tipped

Firstly ask the waste remover for their waste carrier’s licence at first contact. Check that the licence is in date. The licence will show their number, address, and telephone number. Ultimately the Environment Agency licenses all legitimate waste carriers every three years. Therefore after the job, make sure you get a waste transfer note or invoice. Make sure the licence number and address match those on the carrier’s licence.

Last of all  don’t worry because most people are honest law abiding citizens like us, The Rubbish Removers who are proud to be keeping our community clean tidy and rubbish free.

We are licensed with the Environment Agency, waste carriers licence number: CB/VM3381GA

Tameside Council Bin swap initiative

September 10, 2015

As a society, it is each individual’s responsibility to keep our lifestyles today sustainable, so too ensure future generations have the resources they will need. In recent times it has become very clear how important it is to re-use these finite resources where we can.

Facts On Your Bin Waste

Government statistics show landfill waste dropped from 100 million tonnes in 1997 to 39 million in 2013. The amount of waste we produce continues to rise. Recycling awareness and education have helped reduce landfill dependency. As a result more people now understand the value of recycling. Also in 2003, only 11% of household waste was recycled. Consequently by 2013, that figure had increased to 40%. Councils across England reported this improvement in recycling rates. Education campaigns and local initiatives played a key role. Despite progress, we still produce too much waste. There’s still a long way to go.

What Has Happened To Tackle This

Tameside Bin Swap

Back in 2014, Tameside Council kicked off a pilot program to swap out big black bins for smaller green ones. The black bins were used for non-recyclable waste, while the green ones were typically for glass. By 2015, the council had expanded this initiative to cover 30,000 properties. Residents quickly adapted their waste habits to fit the new system, and as a result, landfill waste in the area saw a significant drop. Tameside Council managed to reduce landfill waste by 25%, which translated to savings of up to £3 million. They’re planning to put those savings back into community improvements.

At The Rubbish Removers, we take pride in our strong reputation in the waste industry. Allowing us to stay committed to recycling as much waste as possible. Our team transports all recovered waste to licensed recycling facilities.
Experts at these sites carefully sort all materials. They convert much of the waste into fuel, compost, or animal bedding. Other valuable products also come from the recycling process.
