Two years ago, councils introduced on-the-spot fines for fly tipping waste. We wrote a blog about everyone’s responsibility to dispose of rubbish properly. That includes householders, businesses, and anyone handling general waste.
We all need to do our part to keep our communities clean. At the time, we also heard about plans to cut weekly bin collections. Councils wanted to switch to fortnightly collections across many areas. We immediately knew this would create real problems for households. People can’t reduce how many live in their homes. Nor can they control the amount of packaging from weekly shopping. As a result, rubbish has piled up faster than bins can be emptied. We’ve seen a big rise in black bin bags at homes and businesses. Responsible residents now call us before rats become a real issue. Unfortunately, not everyone chooses the right solution.
Fly tipping waste has increased across the country. The worst cases are now reported in Manchester, Liverpool, and London boroughs. It’s become a serious issue we all need to fight together.
Only last week there was an article in the MEN with the heading:
New pressure on bin collections over shock fly tipping figures.
Campaigners and the public are pressuring Teresa May to order town halls to empty household bins weekly, after government figures revealed over one million fly-tipping incidents last year.
As predicted two years ago, this issue has now become reality. Worse still, the situation continues to escalate. Take a moment to read the full article—you’ll quickly see how serious it is. Moreover, the financial burden keeps growing each year. Let’s face it, the public will likely carry that cost. Whether through higher council taxes or cuts to local services, we’ll all feel the impact. Therefore, it’s more important than ever to manage waste responsibly. Each of us has a role in protecting our community and environment. After all, ignoring the problem won’t solve it—it only allows it to grow. By staying informed and making better waste choices, we can help reduce the damage. In short, acting now prevents higher costs and bigger issues later. Let’s work together to create cleaner streets and a more sustainable future.
Returning to weekly bin collections is exactly what we need, but it will take time to bring that back. In the meantime, make sure you choose someone with a valid waste carrier’s licence for any rubbish removal. Whether you’re clearing a full house, emptying an office, or just getting rid of a few items, hire a responsible professional. That way, you stay within the law and help prevent fly-tipping.
We at The Rubbish Removers always display our waste carrier licence clearly. Running our business legally and ethically every day. Sometimes we might not always offer the cheapest price. Tipping charges rise every year, and we must cover those costs. Still, we believe the old saying is true “You get what you pay for.” You can trust us to dispose of your rubbish the right way. We always take waste to a licensed transfer station for proper processing. There, over 80% of all waste gets recycled, not sent to landfill. We’ve worked hard for 20 years to build a trusted, successful business. If we cut corners, we’d risk losing our licence—and our reputation. That’s not a risk we’re willing to take. We choose to do things right, every time. That way, you get peace of mind and we keep doing what we do best.

Many of you now deal with fortnightly bin collections. However, some councils have already moved to a three-weekly schedule. Other areas are actively proposing this change right now. If you miss one collection, bins sit full for six weeks. That’s a long time to manage extra household waste. For many people, keeping on top of that feels impossible. You may now need an emergency bin collection to cope. So, why is this happening across the country? It’s linked to the way councils manage recycling targets. Recycling rates have already dropped by 45% in some areas. By 2020, councils must reach a 50% recycling rate. If they fail, central government will issue heavy fines. These fines could lead to cuts in local public services. To avoid this, councils reduce general waste collections to push recycling. Sadly, that leaves many households struggling with mounting rubbish.

A Tameside-based waste removal firm has expanded into bigger premises, as a result of rapid growth driven by geographical expansion, making rubbish a success.
Supported by funding from Royal Bank of Scotland, The Rubbish Removers has acquired a unit on Lord Street in Ashton-under-Lyne, which will provide the company with increased office and warehousing space to operate from.
RBS has supported the acquisition of the new premises with a £70,000 funding deal.

Expanding Beyond Greater Manchester: Meeting Growing Demand Across the North and Midlands
The firm originally served only the Greater Manchester area. Over the past two years, demand grew rapidly across a wider region. In response, the team expanded services throughout the North and Midlands. During this time, the company achieved 50 percent growth. Chris noted that demand for their services had risen sharply. The team quickly outgrew their existing premises as business increased.
They found a new unit that fit their needs perfectly. Because it was being sold at auction, they needed funding fast. Joe Riley and his RBS team secured the funding without delay. The quick purchase allowed the business to keep growing without disruption. The move has supported further development and smoother operations. With strong demand continuing, the team believes the expansion will be rubbish a success.
Strong Support, Solid Growth: RBS Backs Business Expansion with New Premises and Timely Funding
Joe Riley and his team at the Royal Bank of Scotland stepped in quickly when support was needed. As a result, the process ran smoothly from start to finish. Their support throughout has been brilliant and very much appreciated.
Furthermore, the new unit suits our needs perfectly and offers long-term potential. It will continue to meet our requirements as we focus on geographical expansion. Joe Riley, Relationship Manager at RBS, explained their role in the process. He said, “We often work under tight time frames to meet client needs.” In this case, funding was arranged quickly for Chris and Diane. Consequently, the purchase could go ahead without delay. Joe added, “Chris and Diane have built a strong, reliable business.” The new premises will give them a solid base for further growth. Overall, this support has played a key part in helping us move forward.
