The best way to make your home feel spacious and fresh is by decluttering. But let’s be honest, who has the time or energy to declutter their home thoroughly and methodically? Most of us don’t. That’s why we have these 7 Ideas to Declutter Your Home in 10 Minutes. Working from home can be a challenging balancing act because you spend so much time in your private space. Having a clean and organised house can help keep you focused and productive. Here are some ideas that will help you declutter your home in just 10 minutes—so you can get back to work!
Declutter your home by tidying up your work area
The first step to decluttering is organizing. A messy workspace can lead to a messy mind. Put away any papers that are currently on your desk. Put books that are on your shelves into containers. And don’t forget to clean your computer screen, keyboard, and computer mouse. A messy desk can make you feel stressed, unproductive, and overwhelmed. If you have a lot of papers, like receipts, that need to be filed, create a to-do list for yourself to get them put away. If you have papers you need to keep but don’t have time to file, try using a paper organizer like a basket or a tray. This will help you keep your desk clean and feel more focused as you work.
Purge the kitchen
The kitchen is one of the most cluttered rooms in most homes, and it’s easy to see why. It’s the hub of the home, the place where we spend most of our time. It’s also the room where we often store the most stuff—so it can become a real mess. Depending on your level of clutter, you may want to take 30 or 60 minutes to declutter your kitchen completely. Or you could choose to just focus on one area, like your countertops or pantry, to declutter in 10 minutes. If you’re in a rush, go with the latter option. First, take everything out of your pantry. Throw away anything that is expired or that you don’t use. Repack your shelves with only the foods you eat on a regular basis. Toss any broken items and wipe down your shelves to get rid of built-up grime. Next, take all your dishes out of the cabinet and wipe down your counters. Make sure to clean out your sink, too. You can also pull out your mop and clean your floors if they’re particularly messy.
Declutter your home, one closet at a time
Your closet is a great place to start when decluttering your home. Closets are notorious for being messy and cluttered, but they’re also fairly easy to declutter. Start by cleaning out your shoe collection, since we all have way too many pairs. Once you’ve narrowed down your collection, make sure they’re all in good condition—or donate them if they’re not. Next, move on to your clothing. Pull all your items off the hangers and look them over to see if there are any that you don’t wear anymore. If there are, put them in a bag to donate. If there are items that still fit but you just don’t wear, put them in a bag to sell. Finally, check your shelves for any items that are cluttering up your closet. A common problem in closets is miscellaneous items getting pushed to the back and forgotten. Put away any items on your shelves that you know what they are, but don’t use on a regular basis.
Toss the trash
We all have a few pieces of broken or worn-out furniture or appliances in our home. But if an item hasn’t served its purpose in years, it’s time to let it go. Start by pulling out anything in your kitchen drawers that is broken or that you don’t use. If there are items in your cabinets that you don’t use on a regular basis, get rid of them. If they’re clean, you can donate them and if they’re dirty, you can put them out with the trash. Next, move on to your bathroom. Start by pulling out any products that don’t work or that you don’t like. If there are broken items or things you don’t use, throw them out. If there are items that are still usable, you can donate them.
At The Rubbish Removers, we can provide clearances for rubbish, waste, junk, furniture and appliances at short notice. We dispose of everything we collect both legally and ethically and we divert in excess of 95% of this waste from landfill.
Organize the clutter
Clutter can create a cluttered space, but it can be easy to overlook it if you don’t see it every day. You can tackle small areas of clutter at a time, like bookshelves and bathroom cabinets. Or you can choose one big project to work on, like organizing your closets or your garage. If you want to tackle a bigger project, start by creating a to-do list. Decide which areas of your home you want to clean out first, and then work your way through the list one project at a time. If you want to tackle smaller projects, start by finding a home for everything you own. Put your books on bookshelves, your clothes in closets, and your tools in the garage. Once everything has a place, you can easily keep your home organized.
Try a little fragrance therapy
Studies have shown that scents can affect your mood and make you feel more productive. So try bringing a few scents into your home to make it feel fresh and clean. Dust the bookshelves in your living room and add a few scented candles to your coffee table. If you want to go even bolder, try burning incense in a specific room of your home. You’ll immediately notice a difference in how fresh your home smells. If your work area smells a little funky, try adding a scented candle to the room or spritzing a fragrance spray. Make sure to keep your scents to one or two; too many scents can actually make you feel more stressed out.
Conclusion – Declutter your home today
Your home should be a sanctuary—a place where you can relax and thrive. Unfortunately, clutter can make your home feel more like a dump than a dreamy retreat. But decluttering your home doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore. And it doesn’t have to take hours, either. With these 7 ideas, you can declutter your home in 10 minutes.
Once you have collected unwanted rubbish waste and junk from problem areas, give us a call and we will be able to provide a quote for a clearance.
Rubbish Removal Companies provide a service to remove unwanted rubbish, waste, junk, appliances and furniture from your property. The team will collect waste from anywhere on your property and load it onto a vehicle. Waste will then be taken to a fully licensed waste transfer station for disposal.
Why Rubbish Removal Companies Are Important.
Rubbish Removal Companies fill an essential void in the waste management chain. Emergency and short notice collections ensure businesses and homeowners can continue as normal when their usual service breaks down. Bulky waste collections provide a solution to take unwanted items to the tip for people who do not have access to larger vehicles. Such services will include all labour. This will save the customer from getting their hands dirty or having to lift anything heavy. All while ensuring that waste, junk and furniture are disposed of legally.
Alternatives To Rubbish Removal Companies.
There are a number of rubbish removal solutions:
Charity Shop Collections – There are many charities such as The British Heart Foundation that can collect your bulky items for resale. There are certain stipulations based on the quality of the items and how sellable they are. Sofas for example must display valid fire safety tags. The items must also be reasonably accessible for the operatives to remove them. Unfortunately, in recent times the second-hand furniture market has taken a hit. With limited floor space on their premises, many charities have had to become much more stringent with what they can and cannot remove. If you opt for this solution, teams often leave items behind so we advise having a backup plan in place.
Council Bulky Waste Collection – Local councils provide collections for bulky items and appliances with prices and availability which can be found online. Prices are calculated per item. You must safely store items outside of the property and make provisions to ensure the items do not end up wet in the rain. Waiting times can vary, however in recent times it is not unlikely for wait times to be upwards of 6 weeks.
Hands-on Solutions
Skip hire – If you have space for a skip they can be a good solution to clear smaller items and particularly rubble and soil. Prices depend on the size of skip you require and will be subject to an additional road permit – unless you have private land on which to drop the skip. You are not allowed to put certain items into skips, including fridges, mattresses and paint. It is important to make sure you hire the right size skip to ensure you don’t pay for more than you need or have waste left over that won’t fit into the container. It is also well reported that skips attract others to dump their waste into them so it is advised to order the skip close to when you intend to fill it.
DIY – If you have the facilities to do so, clearing the waste yourself is usually the cheapest option. Public tips allow you to take limited amounts of waste, a limited amount of times per year. Rules differ in different areas so be sure to ring ahead. Certain types of waste are restricted and if the rubbish is dirty, the best practice would be to line your car boot with sheets.
The Benefits Of Using Rubbish Removal Companies To Clear Your Waste.
Rubbish Removal Companies such as The Rubbish Removers Ltd, provide an all-inclusive solution to remove your unwanted waste. They enter your property to clear bulky items from where they are situated, including bringing items down stairs or up from cellars. All types of waste can be collected without the limitations of council collections. Once collected, they dispose of the waste at private transfer stations, which maintain a much higher recycling rate than public tips.

What Licenses Do Rubbish Removal Companies Need?
In England, Rubbish Removal Companies are required to hold a valid waste carrier’s licence with the Environment Agency. They should also be happy to display this in their marketing and provide a copy to customers when requested.
Companies should also hold public liability insurance to enter your property.
What Types Of Waste Can Rubbish Removal Companies Collect?
The type of license held will determine what specifically the business can remove. Typically they will be able to remove all types of loose non-hazardous waste, wood, metal, bulky items, furniture, electricals, fly-tipped waste, bric a brac, garden waste and building materials.
Due to licensing and health and safety issues, most businesses will not be able to remove:
Asbestos
Soil
Clinical waste including syringes
Gas canisters and bottles
Liquids such as oils, fuels & paints.
Truck/tractor tyres.
Hazardous or toxic materials.
How Do Rubbish Removal Companies Charge?
The volume and weight of the waste usually dictate the price. The most accurate way to give a quote is usually if you send through pictures. However, if this is not possible, an experienced company will be able to give a fairly accurate quote from a brief phone call. Speaking over the phone will also give you a good idea of how professional the firm is.
For the purpose of categorising your waste in terms of volume, firms usually use cubic yards, a fraction of the size of the vehicle or in some cases washing machines. This can be confusing and if you are unsure of exactly what you are booking be sure to clarify what specifically you are purchasing.
It is important to check the quote provided is honest and does not have any hidden fees. More often than not VAT will be in addition to the cost. Some firms also charge for labour in addition to volume. This could increase the price significantly on the day of the collection.
At The Rubbish Removers Ltd, we include all labour and all waste transfer costs in our prices to avoid any misunderstandings. Our prices are honest and transparent and our teams in the office will be happy to discuss our prices in depth.
What Paperwork Should Rubbish Removal Companies Provide?
On completion of a clearance, Rubbish Removal Companies should provide you with a full invoice and a waste transfer note. Documents should clearly state the company’s license number, registration number, address, VAT number (if charging you VAT) and contact details. For larger clearances, particularly on commercial premises, a reputable and competent company will provide a RAMS document for the works.
Do I Need To Be Present When You Collect The Waste?
As long as the waste is easily accessible or you can provide keys, you do not strictly need to be present. We often undertake remote clearances where customers pay over the phone by card.
This has been particularly useful for property clearances where the customer who is organizing the clearance is not local. We can either have keys posted to our head office, collect keys from a local estate agent or gain access to a key safe. For these clearances, we can provide before and after photographs and send these through by either WhatsApp or email.
Where Do Rubbish Removal Companies Take Your Waste?
Strictly speaking, a waste carrier’s license requires businesses to dispose of your waste at a licensed waste transfer station.
At The Rubbish Removers, we go far beyond what our license requires. We dispose of everything we collect both legally and ethically. Wood, metal and hardcore is sent to specific transfer stations for recycling. Fridges and mattresses are separated out and sent to state-of-the-art facilities which remove hazardous elements and recycle what is left. We dispose of general waste at a network of carefully selected transfer stations that focus on minimal waste to landfill. Typically we divert upwards of 95% of all the waste we collect from landfill.
In a standard month, we collect in excess of 100 Tonnes of waste. Before we tip the general waste we separate on average 30 Tonnes of wood, 10 Tonnes of metal, 10 Tonnes of hardcore, 100 mattresses and 100 fridge/freezers from this.
How Are The Rubbish Removers Different From Other Rubbish Removal Companies?
In Short, The Rubbish Removers are a family-run business. We provide a professional, reliable and ethical service to each of our customers.
With over 20 years of experience in the industry, we work for a multitude of clients both domestic and commercial. We tailor services to the needs and requirements of each individual customer and complete each clearance with a high level of professionalism.
The size of firms in our industry ranges from a single man and van operation, which may not have the capacity to take on larger clearances or provide a quick response to your enquiry. To larger national companies who typically subcontract work out, this can result in a breakdown of communication between the company with who you have booked the work and the person who will actually undertake the collection.
The Best In The Business.
We are a regional company who are large enough to provide a fast response to your enquiry whether you have a single item, a house clearance or large commercial premises to clear. However, we are close enough to the ground to be able to give a personal service, ensuring we complete the work to a high standard. All our collection teams are polite, and friendly and wear our uniform with pride. We interview them personally to ensure they will upkeep our values.
As we continue to grow we are committed to staying grounded, ensuring we maintain the quality of the service we provide. We consistently receive genuine, 5-star reviews for our work and customers often return to use our services again.
We are not the cheapest, but we are the best and we are confident that the quality of service we provide ensures high value for money.
The Rubbish Removers are a member of the Which? Trusted Trader scheme, as well as the Trading Standards, Buy With Confidence scheme, both of which independently assess us and ensure our licences and insurances are up to date, and that our codes of practice are both ethical and fair to our customers.
An accurate quote for your enquiry can be provided from a brief phone call – on some occasions we may ask for photographs to be sent through. We will then agree on a suitable time and date for the collection. Our teams will call ahead 30 minutes before they are due and on arrival assess the clearance. They will load your waste onto the vehicle and sweep up the area leaving it spotlessly clean. Once completed you can pay the driver by either cash or card. If you are not present you can pay by card over the phone. You will receive a full invoice/ waste transfer note for the works.
If you have any questions about our services do not hesitate to get in touch, our team in the office is on standby and has the expertise required to help.
Fridge and freezer removal now counts as hazardous waste because these appliances contain harmful substances. For example, mercury can harm the nervous system and cause skin rashes and headaches. Polyurethane can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat and may trigger asthma. Polyvinyl chloride can cause dizziness and damage organs, and people who handle it often have a higher cancer risk. Because of these dangers, safe fridge removal and proper disposal are very important.
So, the question is, can the scrap man take my fridge/freezer away?
Yes, you can still recycle a fridge or freezer. However, scrap yards will not take them anymore. This is because the gases, foam insulation, and plastics inside make them expensive to dispose of. In fact, it costs more to remove these materials safely than the fridge is worth in scrap metal. As a result, scrap dealers no longer find it worthwhile to accept them.
How do you then get rid of them?
First, if you can take your fridge or freezer to the local tip or recycling centre yourself, you won’t have to pay anything. But if you need your local council to collect it, you will normally pay a fridge removal fee of around £30–£60.
Most councils require you to leave heavy appliances outside on the kerbside yourself; if you cannot physically move it, booking a private rubbish removal service solves the problem by clearing it directly from your kitchen or outbuilding. A specialist waste company like The Rubbish Removers offer quicker response times than the council, and we can collect the fridge or freezer from inside your home. We also include all labour in the service. Prices start from £90, depending on the size of the appliance
Be careful of anyone offering very cheap fridge removal because the real disposal costs are high. Very low prices often mean the fridge or freezer won’t be disposed of correctly. To protect yourself and follow your Duty of Care, always check that the company has an Environment Agency licence. Also ask for a Waste Transfer Note that lists your collection and confirms the waste removed was a fridge or freezer.
What will happen to my fridge or freezer upon removal of it?
By law, fridge and freezer removal in the UK must be handled by an approved contractor. For example, the UK’s largest recycling plant, run by AO, processes about 700,000 fridges and freezers each year, which is almost one fifth of the country’s total. At sites like this, workers check each appliance to make sure it can’t be reused. Then, they carefully break it down in a safe way so staff are protected from harmful parts and dangerous gases stay contained.
Old refrigeration units are a common hurdle during full property clear-outs; our professional house clearance teams are fully equipped to safely remove and transport these heavy, hazardous items as part of a complete service.
Summary of Legal & Recycling Responsibilities
In conclusion, disposing of modern refrigeration units involves strict environmental regulations due to the hazardous gases and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) locked inside their insulation foam. Ensuring your appliance reaches an Approved Authorized Treatment Facility (AATF) is a critical part of your household Duty of Care.
For those looking for practical assistance with transport and logistics, our family-run team operates as a fully licensed Upper Tier Waste Carrier, registered with the Environment Agency. We maintain strict compliance with all UK waste legislation and are vetted members of the Which? Trusted Trader scheme and the Trading Standards Buy With Confidence program.
For direct regulatory inquiries, clearance quotation baselines, or booking requests, our central office can be reached on 0161 339 7938. For rapid volume estimates, photographic evidence of your items can be submitted directly to our compliance team via WhatsApp on 07802 860 731. Many companies claim to offer waste disposal services. However, do you really know who will arrive at your home or business? Also we often see a waste disposal company subcontract the work without telling customers. These firms may expect drivers to work illegal hours. They may also send staff they have never met. In many cases, office managers never see or speak to the workers they hire. Choosing a trusted waste disposal company matters.
Here at The Rubbish Removers Ltd, we run a family business and meet every applicant in person. Always explaining the standards we expect on every job, no matter how big or small. Therefore as a trusted waste disposal company, we make sure our team works safely and professionally at all times.
Moreover all our staff receive full in-house training, and we meet every morning to review the day’s work. This gives the team time to ask questions and prepare their vans with the right tools. As a result, they can arrive at any job confident they can complete it professionally and without problems.
In addition we also treat every team member like family. Because of this, we have very low staff turnover, and many of our team have been with us for more than 15 years. Finally as a reliable waste disposal company, we believe a strong team leads to a better service for our customers.
All our reviews are honest and from genuine customers who choose to leave the review praising the staff for the work they carried out.
