A Licensed House Clearance and what it means to you!

September 11, 2018

A house clearance is exactly that. Clearing the house but it does not always have to be a full one which has resulted from a bereavement. It could be just a couple of rooms, a loft or cellar you’ve decided to reclaim back. From the junk that has been stored for months or years even.

‘It could also be the start of turning your life around’.

Hoarders House Clearance

Recent reports have shown that hoarding is not down to just OCD (Obsessive, Compulsive, Disorder.) But a result of suffering from depression. Everybody knows someone within their circle of family or friends who will have suffered from this.

So you have to say ‘well done’ when they finally start to turn a corner. Not judging them for what their house looks like now but that they want to start to make a change.
Our Licensed house clearance service have helped with many a case like this. Always working sensitively and ethically. Never judging or making that person feel degraded but praising them for their achievement. This on many occasions takes quite a few visits to clear the rubbish. As it can be very traumatic for that person. But we are always here and willing to help. Start by contacting us and ask for me Diane and we can take it from there.

On a lighter note A level results are in. Many students are now getting ready to enter the world of university with Fresher’s week just around the corner. Landlords will have cleared the old rubbish and junk from properties ready for your arrival. But when your parents wave you off wishing you all the best, do you know exactly what they are really thinking….

Top Tips To Declutter This Autumn.

September 7, 2018

With 20 years experience helping people declutter their homes and dispose of all types of unwanted junk. We The Rubbish Removers consider ourselves to be quite the experts.

From clearing lofts of accumulated bric-a-brac to removing unwanted furniture from cellars, and everything in between, we have seen it all. So often these out of sight spaces become storage areas for empty boxes, old clothes and items we don’t need. Does this sound familiar?

Facing the Clutter Challenge: Moving into a New Home with Limited Storage

A couple of years ago, when in the process of buying my first house I found myself in limbo. I had moved back to my parent’s house for a time whilst I saved for a deposit. I thought I had very little “stuff” to take with me to my new home. How wrong I was. When I looked through the garage I realised I had boxes of junk, clutter, furnishings and clothes from Uni.

I was unable to take very much with my to my new house for two reasons.

Firstly the house has very little storage, the loft is a bedroom, it has no cellar or garage, the under stairs cupboard is a downstairs toilet etc.

Secondly the person I was buying this house with is my girlfriend. There was no way I was going to get away filling our new home with boxes of junk I had not opened for three years.

So began the decluttering process. This started slowly going through each box, trying on each t-shirt I had put away and flicking through my poster collection. The truth is this is the worst thing you can do. All it does is slow you down and gets you reattached to junk you forgot you had!

Be Brutal: The Key to Effective Decluttering and Refreshing Your Home

My number one tip and piece of advice when you decide to declutter is to be brutal! If you forgot you had something you don’t need it. If you haven’t worn something for over 6 months you will probably never wear it again. And if you have an empty box for a TV that is no longer in its warranty the chances are you will never need that box.

There is something quite liberating about having a clear out and completing this task. It can be a huge weight off your shoulders. Every single day after helping people reclaim their homes we hear people say “This space has never looked so big”. and while the tradition is to have a big spring clean, it is the autumn and winter months in which we spend most time in our homes. So why not declutter and clear out that junk today. Give your home a new lease of life ready for the colder months.

If you need any help or advice don’t hesitate to call The Rubbish Removers today on 0161 339 7938 and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Junk, the price you’ll pay!

August 23, 2018

We all collect junk over the years. Usually, you can take it to the local tip. But sometimes, the items are too big or there’s just too much. So, what can you do? You can hire a skip and handle the work yourself. Or, you can call a company to come and remove it for you. There’s a saying: “You get what you pay for.” That definitely applies to junk removal. Still, no one likes paying when they can’t see the value at the end.

One thing that does apply is the law—you must dispose of your rubbish legally. Think about this: If you needed your boiler fixed, would you choose a CORGI-registered company? Or would you go with “Dodgy Dave,” who might save you a few pounds but put your life at risk? I think we all know the right answer! The same care should apply when you dispose of your rubbish.

What to Look Out For When Booking a Junk Clearance

We all know scammers, cowboys, and fake products flood the market these days. Shows like Fake Britain help us spot these scams so we don’t get conned. In rubbish removal, anyone who clears junk or waste they didn’t create acts as a business. Legally, they must have a waste carrier’s license from the Environment Agency. Always check before hiring to avoid falling victim to unlicensed operators.

How to Spot Cheap Rubbish Removal Scams and Protect Yourself from Illegal Waste Disposal

So, you decide to Google companies and make a few calls to compare prices. We get lots of calls daily, and sometimes customers say someone quoted them nearly ¾ less than us. That sounds impossible, because we know how much it costs to dispose of rubbish properly. I always tell customers to check if the company is a registered waste carrier. They often say, “Yes, their number is on their website.” That’s when my alarm bells ring, so I dig a little deeper. Anyone can make a website look professional, but a fancy site doesn’t guarantee legitimacy. I found some companies showing fake numbers not recognised by the Environment Agency. That means they collect your waste illegally. Who knows where your rubbish ends up probably dumped on a remote dirt track. No wonder their prices are so cheap! Always check licenses.

Don’t get caught out with the lowest price because if the rubbish can be traced back to you then be certain, you will be fined thousands. “cheapest is not always the best”.

Just to be safe, double-check the waste carrier’s number—you can do this easily by clicking here. The search will show the company’s exact name, which should match the one you’re checking. If it shows “0 results,” that’s a big red flag. In that case, steer clear and don’t risk using their services. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

If they have nothing to hide, then why isn’t their certificate displayed like ours?

Eliminate your food waste instead of sending it to landfill

August 8, 2018

Food waste

Generally we are all now well aware of the benefits of eating healthy. Freshly made smoothies are now becoming the majority of people’s breakfast to kick start their day. But just how many of us throw the scraps of the vegetables or the skin of the fruit away as food waste and why?

A major company called Baldour realised the potential of what the scraps really had to offer. And just how they can manufacture it so that it no longer has to go into landfill.

How one company eliminated food waste: ‘The landfill can no longer be an option’

A produce processor renamed its food scraps ‘sparcs’ and started finding other uses for them.

The carrot tops you’ve lopped off are not garbage. Your snapped-off green-bean stems are not scraps. They are what Thomas McQuillan, sustainability director for Baldor, a specialty foods and produce distributor, calls sparcs – “scraps” spelled backward and pronounced like “sparks.” And sparcs, despite popular assumption, are often just as edible as the rest of the fruit or vegetable.

“The story about food we don’t usually eat is mostly negative,” said McQuillan. This includes “ugly” produce or “trash cooking.” Instead of these names, let’s find a better term for trim or byproduct.

Surprisingly it worked for the slimehead, a fish we now see on restaurant menus as orange roughy. It worked for Archibald Alexander Leach – you probably knew him as Cary Grant. And McQuillan is hoping the re-branding effort will make a dent in this country’s huge problem with food waste.

Read on….

Ultimately, before you throw food away next time, take a moment to ask yourself, “Can I use this food waste in another way?” This small habit not only helps you save money on your food bills but also plays a part in reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. It’s an easy change that benefits both your wallet and the environment.

Bin collections now to be every three weeks.

July 30, 2018

Bin Collection missed

New reports show many councils now collect bins every three weeks, not every two. Families are already struggling with this change. If we don’t act soon, rubbish piles like the one above could appear on every street corner. This could become a regular problem if councils and communities don’t work together.

This is a report from The Telegraph last Friday. More than one million households now face infrequent bin collections. Councils are pushing them to recycle more by reducing collection frequency. The Telegraph reports that at least 18 councils have switched or will switch to three-weekly rubbish collections. Additionally, three councils have started or are testing four-weekly collections. This change is challenging many families trying to manage their waste. Read on..

But beware! If rubbish piles up in your backyard or garden, don’t ignore it. If authorities catch you, they will prosecute you and issue a hefty fine. The recent sunny weather hasn’t helped either. Many families now complain about bins filled with maggots and flies. They worry about how this affects their family and pets. Here are a few simple tips to help reduce this problem during infrequent bin collections.

How to Stop Maggots in Your Bin?

  • Use bins that close firmly – avoid swing bins and overloading wheelie bins, so that the lid does not shut properly
  • Rinse food packaging – including recyclable containers – before putting them into the bin
  • Make sure food scraps are kept in a sealed container in the kitchen, or even the freezer until they can be disposed of on rubbish collection day
  • Wrap disposable nappies, the contents of litter trays or other pet waste, and meat or fish scraps before putting them in the bin.

Getting Rid of Maggots : What to Do

Getting rid of maggots is actually pretty simple with these four easy steps:

  • Dispose of the bin bag as quickly as possible
  • Pour hot water over any remaining maggots to kill them
  • Disinfect your bin thoroughly, using a good quality bleach like Domestos to destroy any remaining eggs. Always follow the directions on the label, and test any product in a small area first
  • Ensure the bin lid is firmly closed.

The problem with the amount of refuge in this country is not going to go away any time soon, until people start realising that recycling is the only way forward.

So next time you throw rubbish away, think carefully and manage it well. Squash that box down, don’t buy apples etc. pre packed by them loose, don’t buy another plastic bag, reuse the ones you already have.

Help our environment and educate the next generation, after all it is their future that will be harmed if we don’t start now.
