What are the new rules at your local tip and how will it affect you and your waste?
As of 20th February, new rules set to limit the number of visits to your local tip are going to be introduced across Greater Manchester. In short the rules are designed to limit commercial waste disposal at domestic recycling centers.
The limits will be based on the type of vehicle you drive. Cars will be limited to 52 visits per year (once per week). Vans will be limited to between 12 and 18 visits per year. Read more..
The idea behind the new rules is to deter tradesmen and businesses, who should pay to dispose of their rubbish, from using household recycling centers which are designed for domestic usage.
How Can We Help?
In our industry we have a legal obligation to pay to dispose of waste according to the guidelines of our license. This cost is our main overhead. Subsequently this is the most crucial factor taken into account when we quote for a clearance. We also have an ethical responsibility to ensure the large amount of Rubbish, Waste and Junk we collect is disposed of in the most environmentally friendly manner. This has prompted us to find a transfer station which boasts some of the highest recycling rates in the country. Upwards of 90% of all waste is now diverted from Landfill. Which is around 30% higher than state facilities.
While all tradesmen and businesses should also pay these rates to dispose of their rubbish, the high cost is often overlooked. The trader then has 4 options:
- Take it to a transfer station with a weigh bridge and pay to dispose of the rubbish by weight. With this option the trader will have to pay to dispose of a minimum weight (usually 1 Tonne) which in most circumstances is not financially viable.
- Take it in the boot of their car to a household recycling center. This is the option the council are trying to combat. These recycling centers are becoming overused and funding for these facilities is becoming more and more stretched.
- Find an unlicensed “cheap man and van” service that will collect the waste for an unrealistically small fee. These types of traders then go on to dispose of the rubbish at a household recycling center illegally. Or even worse fly tip the waste which can lead to massive fines for the customer.
- Use a company like The Rubbish Removers to collect and dispose of your rubbish both legally and ethically. We take great pride in the high quality of service we provide to every single customer.
The effect we humans have on the planet is becoming more critical every day.
It’s more important than ever that every single individual and business is committed to ensuring that their waste is dealt with. Not just legally, but also ethically and responsibly. If you let The Rubbish Removers take on that responsibility for you, you can do so with confidence that your waste will be recycled in the most environmentally conscious way.
