Fly-Tipping Clearance in Selby for Environmental Enforcement

A North Yorkshire Environmental Enforcement Officer contacted The Rubbish Removers for a Fly-Tipping Clearance in Selby, after builders’ waste was dumped on a wooded public route between Brayton and Hambleton.

Fly-Tipping on a Public Woodland Route in Selby

The waste had been dumped across the wooded track between Brayton and Hambleton.

Photographs taken before the clearance show broken plasterboard, insulation, timber, cardboard packaging, carpet, rubble and other building materials scattered along the route.

The incident had also been noticed locally. A post in the Save Our Selby S.O.S community group showed photographs of the same fly-tip and raised concerns about waste being dumped in the woods.

That public visibility added to the need for a prompt response.

Fly-tipping can quickly develop into a much larger problem when existing waste remains in place. Once an area appears to have become an informal dumping point, further waste can follow.

For enforcement teams and land managers, removing the original waste quickly can therefore help prevent a manageable incident from escalating.

Rapid Response for North Yorkshire Environmental Enforcement

We arranged the fly-tipping clearance in Selby immediately and scheduled a two-person crew to attend the following morning.

By lunchtime, the entire fly-tip had been removed.

Accessing the Fly-Tip

The rural location could easily have created a significant access problem.

Fortunately, we were able to gain vehicle access along the track and position our 14-yard caged tipper directly beside the dumped waste.

This allowed the team to load the material straight into the vehicle rather than carrying approximately 600kg of construction waste over a long distance.

The photographs from the clearance show the vehicle positioned within the wooded route while the team worked around the different piles of waste.

Working Safely Around Public Access

The route remained accessible to members of the public, making site safety particularly important throughout the clearance.

Our two-person crew kept the working area controlled while removing loose and potentially awkward materials including broken plasterboard, timber, insulation and rubble.

The team worked systematically through each pile before checking the edges of the route for smaller pieces of debris that could otherwise have been missed.

Despite the volume of waste, direct vehicle access allowed the complete clearance to be finished in approximately 45 minutes.

Leaving the Track Completely Clear

Removing the large pieces of waste was only part of the job.

Broken construction materials can leave smaller fragments scattered across the ground, particularly plasterboard, insulation and packaging.

Once the main load had been removed, our team checked and swept the affected area.

The final photographs show the same stretch of woodland track completely clear with no visible signs of the dumped waste remaining.

This before-and-after evidence was supplied to the Environmental Enforcement Officer alongside updates while the team was on site.

Waste Disposal and Documentation

The fly-tip filled one complete 14-yard caged tipper and weighed approximately 600kg.

The Waste Transfer Note formally recorded mixed general waste, mixed construction waste, wood, packaging and concrete, brick, tile and ceramic materials within the collection.

Approximately 98% of the load was diverted from landfill through the appropriate recycling and disposal routes.

We also issued a Waste Transfer Note on completion, providing a documented record of the collection and onward transfer of the waste.

The paperwork records The Rubbish Removers’ Environment Agency waste carrier registration as CBDU409710 and identifies the disposal facility used for the collection.
