The Rubbish Removers were superb and are fully licenced waste carriers. They were polite on the phone and in person. They quoted a reasonable price for removal of a 3 seater Chesterfield and 2 armchairs. They rang 30 mins before arrival. They expertly removed the items through an awkward mid-terrace house. Very happy with the service, would use again and would recommend them to anyone needing sofas removed. Thank you very much.

Why Choose Us for Sofa Removal in Bury?
Trying to move bulky furniture yourself in Bury often involves wrestling with narrow Victorian doorways or steep gradients. Therefore this is why locals choose us over the DIY approach:
We Collect From Inside: Bury Council’s bulky waste service is strictly curb side, therefore meaning you have to haul the item out yourself. We come into your lounge, kitchen, or upstairs bedroom to do the heavy lifting for you.
Protection & Care: We know that navigating the tight corners of a terraced property requires skill. Therefore we take care when moving bulky items and use protection where needed to look after flooring, walls, and doorways.
Same-Day Service Available: If your new suite is arriving tomorrow, you can’t wait weeks for a collection slot. So we are the “Emergency Service” for waste, often available within 24 hours. Moreover all styles are taken: Whether it is a heavy reclining armchair, a modular corner sofa, or a cumbersome sofa bed, we have the vehicles and manpower to handle it.
The Rubbish Removers vs. Bury Council Bulk Collection
Many residents consider the council service first but find the restrictions frustrating. Therefore here is how we compare:
| Feature | The Rubbish Removers | Bury Council |
| Collection Point | Any Room / Upstairs | Curbside Only (You drag it out) |
| Speed | Same Day / 24 Hours | Slots book up weeks in advance |
| Heavy Lifting | 2-Man Team Included | Zero Assistance |
| Item Limits | We take Multiple Items | Charge per item / Strict limits |
What We Take (Sofa & Furniture Removal)
Furthermore we can remove a single item or clear an entire room to make space for your renovation or new delivery. Common items include:
Sofas: Sectionals, Recliners, Chesterfields, and also 3-piece suites.
Sofa Beds: In addition we handle the heavy mechanisms and frames.
Armchairs: Electric risers, wingback chairs, and also footstools.
Upholstery: Old cushions, throws, and also fabric waste.
General Furniture: Coffee tables, sideboards, and display cabinets cleared at the same time.
Typical Load Sizes & Pricing Guide
We operate a transparent pricing model based on volume. Therefore you only pay for the space your items fill in our van, not for “fresh air” as you would with a skip.
Single Item
Fact: Prices start from £80+vat.Context: Ideal for a standalone bulky item like a 3 seater sofa, a large wardrobe, or a fridge.Benefit: Cheaper and faster than hiring a van or waiting for a council slot.
Quarter Van Load
Fact: Roughly 20-30 bin bags / 2-3 cubic yards.Context: Perfect if you are clearing a sofa plus a couple of armchairs or a coffee table.
Half Van Load
Fact: Roughly 6 cubic yards.Comparison: Comparable capacity to a standard builders’ skip (6-yarder).Context: Great for a full living room clearance, including carpets and also old cabinets.
Full Van Load
Fact: 12-14 cubic yards / 100+ bin bags.Comparison: A large capacity equivalent to roughly 2 x standard 8-yard skips.Context: Suitable for full house clearances or large scale furniture disposal.
Get a Firm Price: Send a photo of your sofa to 07802 860 731 for an instant estimate.
Typical Jobs in Bury
Our teams are active across the borough every day. Here are a few examples of recent sofa removals:
Corner Sofa in Ramsbottom: We cleared a large modular sofa from a stone cottage on a steep cobbled street. A skip wagon would never have managed the gradient, but our agile vans parked safely for a swift load.
Suite Removal in Prestwich: A customer in a 1930s semi-detached home needed a 3-piece suite removed before a delivery. We provided a “Wait & Load” service to avoid blocking the shared driveway.
Sofa Bed in Bury Town Centre: We navigated the tight hallway of a mid-terrace property to remove a heavy sofa bed from a spare room, therefore ensuring no scuffs to the newly painted walls.
How It Works
Furthermore we have refined our process to be as simple and stress-free as possible.
1. Get a Quote: Give us a call or WhatsApp a photo of your item to 07802 860 731. We will also provide a fixed price estimate.
2. We Arrive: Our uniformed 2 man team arrives in a specific window, also giving you a call when they are on the way so you are not sat around waiting.
3. We Remove: We carefully manoeuvre the furniture out of your property, what’s more doing all the lifting and twisting required to get it through the door.
4. Recycling: Also as an ethical business, we ensure most waste is diverted from landfill. Therefore your old sofa is taken to a licensed transfer station for responsible processing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to get the sofa to the ground floor?
No. Our service includes full labour. Our 2-man team will collect your sofa from upstairs, a basement, or a third-floor apartment. We handle the stairs and tight corners so you don’t have to risk injury.
Do you take large or awkward items like corner sofas?
Yes. We have the vehicles and tools to handle large items. If a modular sofa needs separating to fit through the door, we will dismantle it carefully as part of the service.
Is your disposal legal?
Absolutely. We are fully Trading Standards Approved and hold a valid Upper Tier Waste Carrier Licence (CBDU409710). We also provide a Waste Transfer Note (WTN) with every job, proving your Duty of Care has been met.
Does Bury Council collect from inside my house?
No. Bury Council’s bulky collection is strictly curb side. Therefore this can be very difficult for residents in terraced properties where leaving a sofa on the pavement might obstruct pedestrians or attract fly-tipping. We solve this by collecting from inside.
Can I take my own sofa to the Fernhill or Every Street tip?
You can, but be aware of the restrictions. The Every Street HWRC (Recycling Centre) is known for being small and cramped, therefore making it difficult to manoeuvre large hired vans. Furthermore, if you borrow a van to move your sofa, you may be turned away or require a specific permit. We save you the hassle of queues and permits.
